Dear Parents / Guardians,

FEAST OF DON BOSCO

31st January brings to us the joyous memory of Don Bosco - our founder and father, our model and guide.

Don Bosco loved much, dreamt big and showed the way. Today, this man’s name is magic. Millions of young people in one hundred and thirty two countries around the world have found hope and learnt to live responsible lives because of Don Bosco. He would often say, “It is enough for me that you are young, for me to love you.” His life was a living out of that love. The Salesians of Don Bosco and our institutions want to keep this love alive. We want the miracles of his dream to continue. We want to dream with the young and make their best dreams come true.

Let us draw upon the spiritual experience of Don Bosco in order to walk in holiness according to our specific vocation. Let us pay special attention to admire Don Bosco, read about him, love and imitate him, pray to him and make him known.

Dear Parents,

DUSSEHRA (VIJAYA DASHAMI)
Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami) celebrates the Hindu God Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil. It is marked on the tenth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Ashvin, according to the Hindu calendar.

The epic Ramayana tells the mythical story of the Lord Rama who wins the lovely Sita for his wife, only to have her carried off by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Ravana had a sister known as Shoorpanakha. She fell in love with the brothers Rama and Lakshmana and wanted to marry one of them. But both of them refused. Shoorpanakha threatened to kill Sita, so that she could marry Rama. This angered Lakshmana who cut off Shoorpanakha's nose and ears. Ravana then kidnapped Sita to avenge his sister's injuries. Rama and Lakshmana later fought a battle to rescue Sita. The God Hanuman and a huge army of monkeys helped them.

The Mahabharata is another series of Hindu myths that play a role in the Dussehra festival. The Pandavas were five brothers who fought evil forces with a set of distinctive weapons. They abandoned their weapons and went into exile for one year. They hid their weapons in a Shami tree and found them at the same place when they returned from exile. They then worshipped the tree before going to a battle, which they won. This epic is also commemorated during Dussehra.

Let this Dussehra bring joy, prosperity and good fortune to you.

Enjoy the victory of truth over evil. Happy Dusssehra to you.

ID-UL-ZUHA (BAKR-ID)
Id-ul-Zuha (Bakr-Id), which is also known as Eid al-Adha or Id-ul-Adha, is a festival that many Muslims celebrate with special prayers, greetings and gifts.

Muslims around the world believe that Allah (God) commanded Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael). Ibrahim followed God's orders, but his son was replaced by a lamb at the last moment. Muslims celebrate this at Eid al-Adha. This feast is called Id-ul-Adha in Arabic and Bakr-Id in the Indian subcontinent, because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat or ‘bakr’ in Urdu. The word ‘id’ derived from the Arabic ‘iwd’ means ‘festival’ and ‘zuha’ comes from ‘uzhaiyya’ which translates to ‘sacrifice’.

Eid brings happiness and God’s endless blessings, EID MUBARAK to You All.

Dear Parents,

Contemporary time is an age of astounding progress in the field of technology and communication. The tree of knowledge is also growing at a faster pace. Education is the only process which can flourish and expand accumulated knowledge skills and values from one generation to another. The need of the hour is to interweave in the students the thread of global awareness, the skills of creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, ability to cope with stress so that the future generation of today thinks rationally and be adequately prepared for the work force in the coming future.

The CBSE envisions a robust, vibrant and holistic school education that will engender excellence in every sphere of human endeavour. The Board is committed to provide quality education to promote intellectual, social and cultural vivacity among the students. It works towards evolving a learning process and environment, which empowers the future citizens to become global leaders in the emerging knowledge society.

The CBSE has come up with numerous examination reforms and quality initiatives in education. The introduction of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) of the students has been one of them.

In this academic year Don Bosco School is implementing the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) of the students in all the classes. For proper implementation of CCE, the school has conducted a number of sessions for staff and students. The students are being initiated into the Formative and Summative Assessments. Besides the mandatory Scholastic achievements, quality initiatives have been taken to polish the Co-scholastic attributes.

I am sure with your co-operation the school will be able to effectively implement these quality initiatives and strengthen the education system. Every child who leaves Don Bosco School shall have social and academic skills and abilities to make choices in their lives.

With Best Wishes,

Fr. Babu Varghese SDB.
